Worcester Racecourse

Worcester is home to one of the oldest racecourses in the country. In fact, the racecourse which is situated right by the River Severn has been around since 1718. The racecourse offers many themed racedays, such as Countryside Alliance day, family fun day with Noddy and Big Ears, as well as the traditional annual Ladies Day.

History

The Pitchcroft racecourse at Worcester has undergone many changes during its time, such as a new course layout in 1880 which featured a new course in the shape of a figure of eight. Several important races also took place at the course during the middle of the 19th century, such as the Worcester Stakes and the Gold Cup. Flat racing took place at the racecourse but this was discontinued in 1966.

The racecourse has not been without its hitches though, and summer jumping started in 1995 due to loss of winter fixtures because of the floods. However, in July and August 2007 the fixtures had to be called off due to the summer floods.
